Our story is from 1999 and I realize that you probably prefer stories after 2000. Nonetheless, thanks for the opportunity to share this story.
After our dad passed away and we were still numb and in mourning, we were advised by our lawyers that it was important to get a death certificate immediately. Our multiple visits to the sanitary inspector's office resulted in no progress. We were just told that we had to bring some odd documents of one kind or the other. One of our friends later found out that the Sanitary inspector was expecting money. We agreed. The sanitary inspector came to Hotel Femina in Trichy to collect Rs. 1500/-. The day after he received the payment he gave us the death certificate.
This whole episode happening right after our father's death left such a bitter taste in our mouth. We couldn't believe the insensitivity or cruelty of the person involved.
ps: I wrote about the whole experience in an email addressed to N. Vittal (chief of CVC at that time). I was pleasantly surprised to receive a response from him and I really appreciated his time and sensitivity.
