Illegal u-turn

Traffic police officer stopped me for taking a u-turn that was illegal (although no signs anywhere saying no u-turn). Asked me several times if I wanted to "pay the fine" or get a violation receipt. I asked for a receipt in exchange for them confiscating my license. He said he would take a legal fine right then...and not take the license...so I agreed. But he just took my INR500 note for the fine and gave me 300 back.,,without any receipt or official paperwork.
