Reported on January 20, 2014 from Mumbai , Maharashtra  ι Report #39062

I was driving at BKC on 19 Jan 2014, sunday 1.30pm when there is minimal traffic. I jumped a signal when it just changed to yellow because there was no other vehicle in sight. The traffic police constable caught me and demanded my licence. He stated that he would have to lodge my licence and I would have to collect it after 15 days. I admitted I was wrong. I requested him not to confiscate my licence for this minor offence and offered to pay the fine and he could give me a receipt. He said that was not possible !! (Unfortunately, at that time I was unaware of the traffic rules which prescribes fine of Rs. 100 /- as a penalty for signal violation.) He refused and and threatened me repeatedly about taking away my licence implying that this was the only punishment. After much pleading and apologising , I finally offered him Rs. 100/- to let me go. He pocketed the money and did not give me a receipt for this - so, much against my principles, I paid a bribe.
