Transfer of ownership

Reported on August 24, 2011 from Bangalore , Karnataka  ι Report #32938

Had to go to the Gnanabharathi RTO to get vehicle registration transferred. They asked for a zillion documents which I submitted (their website had all the info) and after 2 weeks they called me and asked for clearance certificate from the original RTO where the vehicle was registered. I had to collect all the documents back and a day later I ran to that RTO and gave a similar set of documents. They said it'd take 2 weeks even though the website said 2 days for clearance certificate. I waited 2 weeks and promptly the document arrived.
I submitted again to Gnanabharathi RTO and they took it in and made me pay Rs. 50 more as fine (with receipt). 3 weeks later I still had not received it, even though they said it'd take only 2 weeks. I called them up and they asked me to wait for one more week and then turn up in person. I did that, only for them to show me records that they had sent it already. I returned home to find it had come that day.

On the whole the experience, although tedious was made pleasant by the RTO offiicials who did not show much high handedness or made me run about needlessly. Once they asked for PAN card which I didn't carry, they gave me a solution to give them a Form 60 with PAN number mentioned in it. They were helpful with the process, just need to be patient.

Kudos to the Jnanabharthi RTO for a job well done.
