Policeman kept begging, bragging and calling but had to do work without any bribe
I prepared for renewal my passport well in advance because i heard about the nuisances. Whenever i had some other work in city, in time in between i did passport paper work. I met road block at unexpected places like submitting the form at post office but then i turned and decided to submit in fast track at passport office. Now I knew that after paying high fee of fast track processing i will at-least get is earlier. This fee is although higher than otherwise bribe demand expected but here it does not hurt because its legal and you get certainty. (I recently heard from my one friend that he paid 3 thousand to agent and still passport not done. after all you can not speak loudly about the bribe).
Now the interesting part is the police verification. The police man called me on my mobile, i was not in village. I was legally not expected to be present at home or in village, the policeman was supposed to just verify from my neighbors and send the report. This report is strictly time bound due to the fast track application of passport also. I was very certain that policeman has to send report without me being present there and i had urgent work for 3-4 months in another city. The policeman bragged that my passport will be cancelled, he wants to favor me so he is waiting 3-4 more days for me. Then after 3-4 days again he called from his mobile and asked me to send at-least documents like photo, bank passbook, sarpanch's certificate, driving license, copy of passport application, affidavit, family card, voter card through my friend or family member. I called my family in village and told them that the policeman may come to them or call them and do not give any money to policeman. The policeman came to my father at home, he asked for photo and many other documents. My father gave him my photo and a photocopy of voter card etc that were available at home. Then again policeman called me many times, i think at his own cost from his mobile and cautioned me about the failure of renewal of passport. I knew that these document etc were all unnecessary things he was asking for. all the documents come with the file from passport office to police station for verification. He did not knew that i am not in pressing need for the passport and he was really frustrated by my careless attitude. He felt very poor to me because whatever he was saying on the phone it actually meant one thing, the money. After one month i was passing by that police station so stopped by for 10 minutes and asked about the passport. The policeman said that we sent the report but with insufficient documents you provided.
. Unexpectedly the passport came by post after 2-3 months.
